For Businesses

― For those prepared to face the reality of marmot lives ―

This page is intended to help you correctly understand Marmot Village's approach to
breeding, exhibition, and protection.

It is not a guide for us to accept consultations from all businesses.

We wish to share our philosophy only with those who are genuinely committed to marmot welfare and prepared to re-evaluate their current practices.

What We Value Most

Marmots are
not just "exhibits because they are cute"
nor are they "commodities to be bought and sold for human convenience."

However, marmots have historically been placed in harsh environments due to human ignorance and convenience.

Marmot Village operates with the aim of not turning a blind eye to this reality, and instead transforming marmots into "understood and protected beings."

While comfort and enjoyment are important elements for us, what takes precedence above all is
the safety and dignity of marmots.

Our Criteria for Valued Relationships

Even when marmot breeding or exhibition appears problem-free on the surface, it often places significant stress on individual animals.

Inappropriate temperature or humidity
・Excessive stimulation or contact
・Exhibits that disregard behavioral characteristics
・Operations that prioritize "cuteness"

These factors, even if unintentional, can shorten a marmot's health and lifespan.

Once a habitat or trust is broken, it cannot be easily restored. Therefore, Marmot Village does not allow involvement based solely on "good intentions" or "curiosity."

We believe that those involved must bear the same level of responsibility and commitment.

Basic Policy on Breeding and Exhibition

At Marmot Village, breeding and exhibition are conducted based on the following principles:

・Thorough management of each individual's health status, food intake, and weight.
・Prioritizing environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and illuminance.
・Designing exhibits that do not assume direct interaction.
・Immediate response to any signs of stress behavior or abnormalities.
・Prioritizing "whether they are living comfortably" over "whether they are cute" as a judgment criterion.

These are not extraordinary measures.
We consider them to be the minimum necessary considerations for marmots.

Our Approach to Breeding Review and Supervision

Marmot Village does not accept all inquiries or requests for supervision regarding breeding and exhibition.

・When it is determined that marmot welfare would be compromised.
・When there is a significant disparity in philosophy or attitude.
・When the initiative is solely for profit or attracting visitors.

In such cases, we may decline the consultation.
This is because Marmot Village wishes to minimize any possibility of marmots suffering due to our involvement.

Why We Still Engage with Businesses

There is one reason why we still engage with businesses: to prevent the further proliferation of inappropriate breeding and exhibition.

We aim to gradually change the reality where correct knowledge and philosophies are not shared, leading to the repetition of similar problems.

If businesses change, environments change, and the future of marmots changes.
It is because we believe in this potential that we engage with businesses under specific conditions.

For Businesses Considering Consultation

Please consider a consultation only if you resonate with the following ideas:

・You prioritize the lives of marmots above all else.
・You are serious about re-evaluating your approach to breeding and exhibition.
・Your purpose is not solely sales or publicity.

If you feel any discomfort with the content of this page, your views may not align with ours.
